Mabrouk
Brighton People’s Theatre wants to welcome people who speak Arabic and people with heritage from Arabic speaking countries into its theatre making community. To do this we are inviting people with heritage from Arabic speaking countries to co-create a new show called ‘Mabrouk’.
We are going to run 12 workshops from February – April 2025 co-facilitated by Tanushka Marah and the writer, Suhayla El-Bushra, to support her in writing an original script for a new show
Come and be part of the creative process. Each workshop will be repeated twice on the same day (either 12 – 2 pm or 6 – 8 pm) so that people with different caring and work responsibilities can hopefully come to one of the workshops. Come and play.
All workshops will be held at Friends Meeting House, Ship Street, Brighton, BN1 1AF.

A note before you book
This workshop series is based around the theme of MABROUK, which means ‘celebration or congratulations’ in Arabic. We will ensure these workshops are a space of connection, play and solidarity, run by a creative team who have been trained in safe and ethical approaches to making theatre from personal stories. There will also be additional support from the Trust for Developing Communities (TDC).
Script Work (6-8pm)
Suhayla will bring short pieces of script that she has written to explore in the workshop. This will be an opportunity to play games and perform, bringing ideas for the characters and stories in Mabrouk to life.
All our activities are sold on a Pay What You Decide basis. We know that times are tough and we do not want finances to stop you from getting involved. Please select a ticket price that you can afford to book your place on a workshop.
