Who are Pelican Parcels?
Pelican Parcels support children and parents in Sussex experiencing hardship by working in partnership with local council services such as health visitors, social workers, women’s shelters and other charities and agencies. We take pre-loved and new item donations for babies and children up to age 12, and redistribute them to families facing financial hardship via various existing family services in Brighton & Hove in Sussex.
Who do they need?
We’ve looking for the following attributes in our volunteers:
Positive can-do attitude
Ability to work with other volunteers
Ability to listen to and follow instructions
An interest in helping local families experiencing financial hardship
Appreciation and respect of the confidential nature of information that may be acquired during course of volunteering
When do they need you?
We are quite flexible, our warehouse is open Monday- Thursday 10am –2pm. Initially we invite volunteers in for a warehouse tour and then offer 6-8 sessions training over a couple of months on a set day. Once training is complete we would love volunteers who can commit to a regular 4 hour shift once a week however understand this is not always possible. We do a new volunteers warehouse tour every couple of months. We have particularly busy periods over summer in the lead up to school starting with our uniform project and towards the end of the year with our Christmas project.
What do they need you for?
Pelican Parcels takes pre-loved and new item donations for babies and children up to age 12 and redistributes these to families facing financial hardship via various existing family services in Brighton & Hove in Sussex. We are looking for volunteers who are passionate about wanting to help local families. Volunteer tasks will predominantly include quality checking clothing and other textile donations. There will be opportunities to check other items such as toys, books, and cleaning and safety checking prams, beds and highchairs but we require volunteers to sift and sort clothing donations first and foremost.
