Who are SPIN?

SPIN aims to improve the knowledge and awareness of useful organisations and provide this information proactively to single parent families in Brighton & Hove & surrounding areas of Sussex via our Facebook group www.facebook.com/groups/SPINsingleparents
SPIN aims to empower and improve the wellbeing of single parents by offering information about low cost and free activities, events, training, goods etc This promotes fairness for single parent families who do not receive financial support from their other partner
SPIN promotes shared care between separated parents and single parents may join whether as a sole carer or joint carer.
SPIN is volunteer run and free to join (73% of our members find out about us through word of mouth recommendation)
Who do they need?
MEMBERSHIP SUPPORT - SPIN is looking for motivated volunteers to help provide assistance to our membership of single parent families. This could be assisting with providing information proactively to the facebook group or helping apply for equipment and or funding for a member in need or helping run a project and delivering it to members who access the service or donated items.
Comfortable using FB, excel spreadsheets to identify what help can be provided and or record how the members have received assistance. Looking for people with initiative, reliability and commitment for however long you are available to volunteer. Patience is required as many single parents in need of support will struggle with follow through and reliability for many reasons.
It is very helpful if you are a single parent or have grown up with a single parent or know single parents as it will be easier to empathise and appreciate the value of your assistance to them. Volunteers can work from home remotely and or attend our office space which is in central Brighton. Free tea coffee biscuits and fruit.
When do they need you?
This can be short term or long term and fit around your own commitments and responsibilities. Ideally to attend the office in Hove on a weekly basis to learn about the role and to have an opportunity to have induction to learn what the role entrails. If you are job seeking then SPIN will provide a reference and access additional external training where possible.
What do they need you for?
Currently we hold a large database of organisations that can provide individual assistance to our membership and this is not being utilised due to lack of volunteers. You will need to understand the member and their family circumstances and what they need either face to face or remotely by email/telephone/zoom etc to work out who to apply to from the organisations we hold. Then an application will be completed on their behalf by you and submitted and followed up. Management of a grant if offered to SPIN and then to the member will be required.
