Volunteer with Roots Rising!

Who are Roots Rising?

Roots Rising is an award-winning nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower youth and build community through food and farming. Our vision is to lift up teens as community changemakers and to strengthen the local food system through the transformational power of meaningful work.

Roots Rising has two main initiatives: our Youth Crews and our Pittsfield Farmers Market.

Anyone is welcome at their volunteering days, whether you want to sit and observe nature, have a cuppa and a chat or do gardening tasks everyone is welcome. All ages and abilities are welcome and all levels of experience.

When do they need you?

We currently run our volunteer sessions on a Tuesday and Friday morning 10-12pm with longer opening times from March. Many of our volunteers have been attending for the past two years, some come for both sessions, some for one. You can choose to come for how ever many sessions you would like and commit to what you can. We also run family sessions in the holidays and hope to open more sessions this year, please follow "The Peverells Community Garden" on facebook for further details of extra sessions.

What do they need you for?

We have a variety of tasks within the garden which can suit your physical and mental health needs. Our gardening tasks are seasonal and include composting, seed sowing, building planters, growing veg. Many of our volunteers have gone on to gain employment and we have developed community beyond the garden. Not only does attending create wellbeing in ourselves we are contributing to a wider community by providing a space for families to come, connect, eat and enjoy nature in the garden.
