Our name
The name of our foundation is inspired by a saying coined by the tribespeople of the Maasai Mara in the African Great Lakes region of Kenya. ‘Enjoolata!’ describes the ‘joy felt when something hidden becomes known, when something concealed becomes revealed’.
At Enjoolata we believe that lasting and meaningful change comes from within the community. If we offer funding and support to people who live in and understand how to better their own communities then we can facilitate positive change, help uncover hidden voices and spark joy.
Our team
Founded in 2020 during the Coronavirus lockdown, the team behind Enjoolata collectively recognised the economic impact on individuals and small organisations in the wake of the global pandemic.

Our story
Enjoolata is born out of the Rowland Family Foundation established in 2005. Back then, the charity had a specific mission helping children and young people in disadvantaged situations overcome barriers to education and their future.
Between 2005 – 2012 the Foundation worked with Hopes and Homes for Children, supporting projects in Rwanda, Moldova, Transnistria and Bosnia. Their work is focused on transforming systems and changing lives, accelerating the transition from orphanages and institutions to family and community based care.
Between 2005 – 2015 the foundation worked closely with Child Welfare Scheme, Kidasha and Rights4Children in Nepal. The charities supported some of Nepal’s most disadvantaged children and young people from early childhood into education.
In 2008 The Foundation began a treasured partnership with Chailey Heritage Foundation in East Sussex, UK which we continue to support. Chailey Heritage Foundation provides education and care services and is one of the UK’s leading centres for children and young people with complex neurodisabilities.
In 2010 the Foundation funded the film ‘Across Kenya’ by Chris Rhys Howarth who became the first and only person in history to run across Kenya, covering 40 marathons in 30 days. The documentary highlights the issues of children forced to live on the streets of Kenya.
In 2018 the Foundation turned some of its attention to environmental issues and began a four year partnership with The Manta Trust in the Maldives. The Manta Trust is a UK-based charity that was formed in 2011 to co-ordinate global research and conservation efforts for manta rays, their close relatives and their habitat.
In 2020 when the effects of Covid-19 were being felt, Angela wanted to do something to spark joy in her own local community at a time when the world for many felt dark. Angela gathered a team of like-minded souls and Enjoolata was born.
By June 2020, we were offering grants to organisations in our community impacted by the effects of the virus.
During this same year, Enjoolata Foundation began an exciting partnership with Shujaaz Inc. Shujaaz is a multi-media platform that aims to help improve the lives and livelihoods of young people in East Africa.
Nowadays, The Enjoolata Foundation strives to make a difference by supporting and funding trusted partners at home and abroad.
