Lulu’s Trip to Nepal!

We’re excited to share some fantastic news! Our wonderful Lulu, who keeps everything at Enjoolata running seamlessly, recently took a two-week trip to Nepal to visit the inspiring team at PRAYASS. While we missed her here, she’s returned with brilliant stories that we can’t wait to share!

This incredible initiative, run by Right4Children in Pokhara and supported by the Kadoorie Charitable Foundation, Children4Children, Child Welfare Scheme Hong Kong, and the Enjoolata Foundation, focuses on empowering young girls and women at risk of entering the adult entertainment sector. By offering protection, opportunities, and alternative career paths, PRAYASS is creating safer and brighter futures for countless lives.

During her visit, Lulu got to see the project’s impact firsthand, exploring schools, women’s shelters, and health centres while meeting the passionate individuals making it all happen.

One of the most memorable parts of the trip was visiting the Child-Friendly Schools outside Pokhara. These schools break away from traditional education by incorporating practical skills like plumbing, woodwork, music, and dance alongside academic lessons. “Book-free Fridays” encourage creativity and play, showing just how much thought has gone into creating a well-rounded learning environment. Although many students were still on holiday for the Dashain and Tihar festivals, with extra time off to help their families with the rice harvest, their teachers’ dedication to fostering an engaging, supportive space was unmistakable. We were thrilled to see how the innovative educational philosophies that we champion closer to home resonate on a global scale!

Lulu also visited Early Childhood Development centres, which are transforming the lives of families in rural communities. These centres provide free childcare, enabling mothers to work and contribute to their households. Similarly, remedial classes are helping children from low-income areas stay in school by giving them the extra support they need to succeed. Simple ideas, but with a profound impact.

Before we wrap up, we must tell you about the SHE Shelter, a vital refuge for young women and girls who have been rescued from abuse and trafficking. The shelter not only offers a secure place to live but also provides opportunities to learn practical skills, such as housekeeping and barista training, through the FAB School. For many, it’s a crucial stepping stone toward independence and dignity. Lulu even met an 18-month-old boy who had been surrendered to the shelter and was now being lovingly cared for by both the house mother and the other girls in the shelter.

The FAB School, operated by GATE Polytechnic Academy, itself is a shining example of the long-term success of these programs. It equips young people with real-world skills for the hospitality industry, and its principal is a former student of GATE College, Kathmandu - a full-circle moment that speaks volumes about the program’s impact! Equally impressive are their Urban Outpost Health Centre, which supports up to 50 women daily, offering medical care and education, while the SHE Centre provides a safe space for counselling and health services for women in the Adult Entertainment Sector. These programs offer vital support to those who often have nowhere else to turn.

Lulu returned with countless stories of hope, resilience, and progress. The most heartening takeaway? The communities themselves are becoming deeply involved, taking ownership of these projects to ensure they thrive for years to come.

We’re so proud to be part of this journey with PRAYASS and can’t wait to see how it continues to evolve.
